March 16, 2020
The Heart of Hastings Hospice is announcing some programmatic changes that are being implemented in light of COVID 19. These measures are being adopted to facilitate social distancing as a means of reducing risk of COVID 19 transmission as part of our community efforts to “flatten the curve”.
The health and safety of clients, residents, family members, volunteers, staff, partners, and community members is our top priority. We are committed to support efforts to minimize the spread of the virus through increased screening and limiting person to person contact especially around people with already complex medical conditions.
Effective Monday March 16 until further notice (will review at mid April):
Home/community-based visits for our outreach program are suspended
All volunteer activity is suspended.
All group-based programming is suspended (on site or off site), including Bereavement groups and caregiver support groups.
**Staff will be working with impacted clients to ensure support continues via phone, psycho-social supports**
All nonclinical staff will be working from home until further notice, and can be reached via email. Phone calls to the office will be rerouted to the on-call phone which is being manned.
We are aware that many of our clients and community are already socially isolated and may face barriers to being able to observe some of the recommendations about social distancing. The Heart of Hastings Hospice will be working to find ways to connect with and support those people through the COVID 19 challenges.
· We are asking people NOT to come to our building unless their visit is essential. Equipment lending program has been suspended.
· We will be postponing our Handbags for Hospice event until October 7th.
The Heart of Hastings Hospice remains committed to its mission in supporting individuals and families at end of life, through life threatening illness and grief. We will monitor and adapt as the COVID-19 outbreak evolves. Please check out website for updated information.
More information will be shared as it becomes available.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
