Land Acknowledgement
The Heart of Hastings Hospice is on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, including the Mississauga and Ojibwe peoples, in the territory covered by the Rideau Purchase (Treaty 27 and Treaty 27¼), where Indigenous Peoples continue to live, gather, teach and care for the land today.
Many Indigenous Peoples are in relationship with the land – living with it, learning from it, and caring for it. As a hospice, we value compassion, dignity and presence, and this includes how we care for the people and the place we are part of.
We recognize that the treaties between Indigenous Nations and the Crown are still part of how this land is shared today and they continue to shape relationships. We know the land has a long history that predates those agreements, and that Indigenous Peoples continue to carry knowledge and teachings, and remain connected to these lands and waters.
At The Heart of Hastings Hospice, we believe that care is about relationship – with people, with families, and with the place we are part of. We are committed to listening, learning and walking forward with respect and understanding.
