Visiting Hospice Program
Being diagnosed with a life threatening illness can be overwhelming for both the individual diagnosed, and their family. Hospice can help, we can help you navigate this difficult journey. Hospice compliments other health care services by providing support to the client wherever they are residing, whether that be in their own home, a nursing home, a retirement home, hospital, or in our residential Hospice House.
Upon receiving a referral, a Coordinator will meet with you and/or your caregivers to determine how we can help. Trained Hospice Volunteers function as extended family members. They can provide companionship by talking, listening, or just sitting quietly. Volunteers can also assist the caregiver by running errands outside the home - such as picking up medication or groceries, by preparing a small meal, or assisting with personal care. They may accompany a patient to a doctor's appointment and more.
Input from the individual and family will be heard and if a volunteer would be of benefit, one will be selected to work with the family. If a volunteer is not needed, other services will be explained and offered and the hospice coordinator will follow up to check in on a monthly basis with a phone call, or at the patient/family request
The Heart of Hastings Hospice accepts referrals from anyone; individuals, family members, friends, visiting nurses, physicians, clergy, or home care workers. Use our contact form or call (613) 473-1880 to speak with a Coordinator about the program.

Our coordinator will meet with you and a volunteer in your home. During this time, we will assist in the client and volunteer to "break the ice" and get to know each other.
