Walking Together So No One Has to Walk Alone: A Heartfelt Hike for Hospice

The Heart of Hastings Hospice is extending a heartfelt thank you to the community following another successful Hike for Hospice, held September 19 at the beautiful O’Hara’s Mill in Madoc. With approximately 60 participants joining together for the event, the day was a wonderful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with compassion and a shared purpose.

Presented by InspiAir, this year’s Hike for Hospice raised an incredible $26,627.27 in net proceeds to support the essential programs and services offered by The Heart of Hastings Hospice. Every step taken, donation made and hour volunteered helped make a meaningful difference for local individuals and families navigating life-limiting illnesses, caregiving challenges, grief and loss.

“Events like Hike for Hospice remind us that we are never truly alone when we have a community willing to stand beside us,” says Pauline Pietschmann, Fundraising & Awareness Coordinator at The Heart of Hastings Hospice. “We are so grateful to everyone who came out, collected pledges, made a donation, volunteered their time or supported this event in any way. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us continue being there for families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. That support means more than words can express.”

The success of Hike for Hospice would not be possible without the generosity of the many local businesses, sponsors, service clubs, donors and volunteers who believe in the work of hospice. From helping organize the event to providing sponsorship, supporting activities and lending a hand throughout the day, each contribution played a part in bringing the community together for this important cause.

A special thank you goes to InspiAir for presenting the event and to the Stirling Lions Club for generously providing the barbecue. The Heart of Hastings Hospice is equally grateful to all the sponsors and community partners whose generosity helped make the day such a success.

Beyond the funds raised, Hike for Hospice represents something deeply meaningful. It reflects a community that cares for its neighbours, recognizes the importance of compassionate support and understands that no one should have to navigate life's most difficult moments without help.

The Heart of Hastings Hospice provides a range of services, including residential hospice care, visiting hospice, caregiver support, grief and bereavement programs, and a Lending Equipment Program. These services offer comfort, practical assistance and connection to individuals and families throughout our rural communities. All hospice programs are offered at no cost to those we serve, and community fundraising plays a vital role in ensuring this support remains available.

“Behind every program we offer is a person, a family and a story that matters,” says Pietschmann. “Whether we are supporting someone at the end of their life, giving a caregiver a much-needed break or helping someone navigate the pain of losing a loved one, our goal is to make sure people feel supported and cared for. The kindness shown through Hike for Hospice helps make that possible, and we are incredibly fortunate to have such a caring community behind us.”

The Heart of Hastings Hospice extends its sincere thanks to every participant, sponsor, donor, volunteer and community partner who helped make this year's Hike for Hospice a success. Your generosity reaches far beyond the event itself, helping bring comfort, dignity and compassionate care to local families when they need it most.

Together, we are building a community where people are cared for, families are supported and no one has to walk alone.
